Introduction

Like many others, I am starting to dream about my garden this summer. In 2018, we moved from an urban area where we restored the ground and created an oasis in the middle of the city to a one acre property in a high mountan desert on a mesa.  This property was poorly managed.  The soil was heavily damaged by overuse of Roundup to control the weeds for many years.  The weather patterns were different from what we experienced in the city.  The summers are hotter and drier.  The gale force wind has destroyed many things we created.

Finally, this is the 4th season that this property will be free of non organic chemicals and farming methods.  We have gained a better understanding of the land and what is needed to grow effectively. The thrill of how we can tend the microbial balance and turn this desert, weedy plot into something beautiful is beginning to take hold.

So our 2022 season begins.  I hope in this blog to share some of the successes and failures we have faced over the past several years and log our journey going forward.

Here's to a beautiful and fruitful season ahead!

Repurposing

Five years ago I built a strawberry bed and added a trellis to hide the propane tank.  I also built a gazebo.  We were new to me...
